"Beleon Tours refuses to deal with mass incoming tourism
The next tourist season will be full of radical changes for the Greek Tour Operator Beleon Tours The President of Beleon Tours Leonidas Dimitriadis informs that starting from the year 2015 the company strategies and goals will be changed.
The company will not deal with mass tourism any more. From now on its priorities are dedicated to the development of FIT tourism, events, theme tourism and VIP segment. Beleon Tours will continue developing its wedding, events and MICE departments.
Its thematic excursion programmes, the organization of weddings in Greece, health tourism sector are the main spheres of interest for the season 2015. For the season 2014 Beleon Tours has serviced about 230 000 tourists, which is 30% less than in 2013. “Despite the crisis in the sphere of Russian tourism industry the financial condition of our company I evaluate as consistently good. From the moment of its foundation Beleon Tours has serviced 1 100 000 tourists from Russian and former CIS countries.
I personally believe that it is a solid basis for confirming our professionalism and great potential. Time has come to turn quantity to quality which will provide perfect financial results”, declared Mr. Dimitriadis.
The Statement of Mr. Dimitriadis
“The decision to stop dealing with masses in the incoming tourism and to stop our cooperation with Biblio-Globus tour operator was taken in June 2014. Starting from July 2015 Biblio-Globus has begun signing contracts for the season 2015 independently. I would like to point out the fact that the decision is due to our changes in business strategies and we do not intend to seek any “replacement” to Biblio-Globus among other tour operators.
We would like to thank the operator Biblio Globus for our cooperation and wish them good luck in the foundation their own incoming company in Greece.
We refuse to continue having huge financial risks.
In 2014 Beleon Tours took the risk of more than 50 million euros for the hotel contracts in Greece. Taking into account the fact that the Russian tourist market will remain highly unstable according to our evaluation of the situation, we do not intend to credit tour operators. Beleon Tours has always cooperated with its partners on prepayment basis without making any exceptions for anyone.
This is the reason why our company has not suffered financial losses. I think that what the latest events in the tourist market of Russia made each of us to think over and reevaluate.
Certainly, the tourist industry will never be the same. More and more tourists refuse to buy packaged tours and start planning and booking their vacations themselves in the Internet.
Dumping strategies of some tour operators and a number of existing problems in the local legislation of this sector make tour operation far from being profitable business.
According to my vision, the next tourist season will not be easy: further decrease of margins, a higher outflow of clients in favour of online booking systems.
The situation of the tour operators will not be an easy one.
What are the next steps in the following situation?
In our development strategy I pursue a goal of providing high quality individual tours, of developing our luxury segment, attracting new markets.
Our team has visited more than 20 professional tourist exhibitions worldwide and has discussed with industry experts from different countries their views and ideas on tourist business.
We will continue organizing Incentive meetings and conferences.
Right now, we are planning of attracting other markets where the tourist market is more marginal.
We will develop our presence in organizing conferences, where we have already had success.
For the last 12 years, Beleon Tours has organized more than 100 conferences and we annually organize the International Forum “Dialogue of Civilizations”.
Our spheres of expertize also include exclusive wedding organization, business trips, real estate services in Greece, event and theme tourism, forums etc.
I am confident that our transition to the FIT segment, theme and VIP tourism will help us to avoid our presence in the dumping “wars” and will significantly improve the company’s profitability.
Customers are willing to pay more for high quality services in comparing with the mass product in conditions of tough competition. By informing about our new strategy, I pursue three main objectives: to reduce the risk and increase profitability, to be one of the first that will successfully adapt to the new realities of a changing market and strengthen the activity of already functioning spheres of interest of the company".
